How to Reach Coorg – the Scotland of India
Getting lost in the luscious greenery and therapeutic tranquillity of Coorg is on the bucket list of every traveller. Situated in the Western Ghats of southwestern Karnataka, this beautiful hill station is blessed with the remarkable ability to distance you from the relentless uproar of the outside world and rejuvenate your senses. That is not because Coorg is hard to access, but because it is surrounded by dense jungles and vast stretches of coffee plantations for miles on end.
By Road: If you’re wondering how to reach Coorg, it is fairly easy to do so, as the region enjoys great connectivity to other cities nearby. For instance, if you are travelling via road, you will find the journey as exhilarating as the destination. Passing by picturesque mountains in your own vehicle with the cool wind caressing your face is a refreshing experience unto itself. However, if you are taking a bus, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is one of the most trustworthy means of transport. It boasts an excellent line-up of buses from major cities like Bengaluru (243 kms), Mangaluru (151 kms), and Mysuru (107 kms). Overall, travelling to Coorg by road is a wonderful option because it gives you the opportunity to soak in gorgeous stretches laden with the mesmerising beauty of nature. By Rail: Although Coorg does not have a railway station, travelling by train is still a viable alternative. Mysore Railway Station, which is the nearest, is located about 107 kilometres from the district. Once you reach Mysuru, you can hire a cab or take a bus. Other railway stations that are well-connected to Coorg include Mangaluru, which is 150 kilometres away, and Hassan, 104 kilometres away. By Air: Being a small district, there is no airport at Coorg, either. Located at a distance of about 160 kilometres, Mangalore International Airport is the closest civil airport. It is well-connected to big cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru. There is no shortage of flights carrying passengers to and from these cities, which makes air travel an option worth considering. Once you land, you can hire a cab or board a bus to Coorg.
