Snow Trip to Himachal Pradesh

2/3/2017

A group of millennials, working in the corporate - sector in Gurgaon, approached me to plan a trip for them on a long weekend in January 2017.

They had a clear set of requirements:
1. Snow
2. Short Trek
3. A Leisure day after the trek
4. Budget trip

I gave them 5 options for easy short treks in different regions, explaining the difficulty level of each one.
I suggested a snow destination for the leisure day. It was tailored around the trek they chose.

We then worked on the accommodation and transportation options that would be required for this trip. In 2-3 calls, we had a confirmed itinerary.

Check the comments section in the end to read reviews of this trip.

I have known Ravenous Legs much before even the inception of it and its Medhavi's conviction in her own self that is contagious enough for one to be bitten by the travel bug themself, once you speak to her.
A corporate life in Gurgaon involves working maddening hours and a mundane routine living from weekend to weekend. So an escapade for me, had to involve seeking her help, someone I knew who relates travel with much more than just sightseeing.
The bunch of people I made a plan with were totally depending on me to make the choices, only prerequisits stated were snow and a scenic landscape which could be absorbed whilst sipping tea. The inspiration for including a trek came from hearing and reading about Medhavi's expeditions herself, hence Prashar was finalised, considering we were beginners.
I knew I could blindly trust her with choices even when I was confused, because she had first hand information about weather, terrain, activities, culture, people etc living in the mountains herself.
I do not think Google could have justified similarly or for that matter any standard travel package which is not flexible to change at all.
Consequently, her connects with the locals is what helped us accommodate last minute change of itinerary due to rain playing spoilsport on the scheduled day of trek.
Not only did she get all room and trek bookings done in advance modified, but she never let us know of any issues, very smoothly handled.

The trek was breath-takingly beautiful but the personalization Medhavi lent shone in small details. Food, accomodation, even the guides had a cordial rapport with her and the group. Her stories and presence made all the difference possible to make us feel at home throughout.

Trekking gear and other things to carry were informed on-point. It was unlike other trips I'd made to the mountains and having trekked fully equipped, I now look back and wonder how carelessly I'd earlier without the necessities and accessories.
I was surprised when the arrangements exceeded my expectations, because I had hardly given her any specifications, only a vague outline that we wanted to "chill". She did exactly that within a very reasonable budget. Eventually, we all had such a great time that money wasn't a constraint anymore even if we would have overshot expenses, luckily we did not.

A huge thanks to Medhavi for a dream first trek and if your job is making you lose your mind, Ravenous legs is the answer.

Without a doubt, the best weekend trip I've been to in a long long time.

First, because I experienced a climate that was completely new to me. The trek to Prasher Lake is not very demanding and gives you lot of chances to pause, observe and learn. Right from mesmerising views behind every bend, looking at others between clouds descending on the snow laden trail and learning how to manoeuvre in the snow so as to not slip and fall for the umpteenth time, this trip has a fair number of moments etched in my mind forever.

Secondly, the overall trip, if you include accommodation and travel from Mandi to Prasher Lake and back was quite comfortable. Even more so specifically for me, because I had to do zero planning. Lately in my life, that’s one job I’d come to dread before every trip. So over here, having communicated our requirements to Medhavi beforehand, we just had to turn up at the right time properly equipped.

While I did say its not very demanding, I wouldn't say its all out easy trek either. It gave us all a good idea of where we're all at w.r.t. our stamina and overall fitness. For a person on his first proper trek, I felt Prasher Lake was perfect. Will definitely be consulting Medhavi for the next one.
