Dubai Honeymoon: What Couples Get Wrong

18/9/2026

Dubai Honeymoon: 7 Things Couples Get Wrong (and How to Fix Them)

Most Dubai honeymoons go wrong during booking, not during the trip. The seven costly mistakes: travelling in the wrong month, assuming a visa on arrival, staying in the wrong part of the city, planning two evening experiences in one day when the sun sets at 5:28 pm, booking a 200-person desert camp, chasing landmarks that are currently closed, and not telling anyone it’s a honeymoon.

Fix those seven, and Dubai is one of the easiest honeymoons in the world: a 3-hour flight from Mumbai, warm in the months Indian weddings actually happen, and small enough that you’re never more than 40 minutes from dinner.

Key takeaways

  • Best months: mid-November to March. April is the value sweet spot, still warm, lower rates, fewer crowds.
  • Watch the date: Ramadan is expected to run from 8 February to 8 or 9 March 2027. A honeymoon inside that window is quieter, with daytime dining and live music restricted. Beautiful for some couples, wrong for most.
  • Don’t assume a visa on arrival. Indian passport holders generally need to arrange a UAE visit visa before they fly. The conditional 14-day visa on arrival applies only to those holding a US visa, US green card, or EU visa or residence and those rules were tightened again in 2026.
  • One romantic evening thing per day. December sunset is around 5:28 pm. The desert safari and the dhow cruise both want that same window.
  • Two hotels for five nights cost you half a day. Pick Beach or Downtown and stay put, or split only if you’re there six-plus nights.
  • Say the word “honeymoon” at booking, not at check-in. It’s the difference between a room and a room with something waiting in it.
Dubai Honeymoon - Mistakes to Avoid
Dubai Honeymoon - Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake 1: Booking the wrong month because the wedding date was decided it

Indian wedding season runs from November to February, which is why most couples land in Dubai during the exact same weeks. That’s mostly good news, those are Dubai’s best months. Two traps sit inside them.

The Ramadan overlap. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February and run until 8 or 9 March, with Eid Al Fitr expected on 9–12 March (lunar dates are confirmed only upon moon sighting). During Ramadan, daytime dining is restricted in many venues, live music and club nights largely stop, and the city’s rhythm shifts to late evenings. If you get married in late January, you’ll be honeymooning into it.

The New Year premium. 31 December is the single most expensive night of the year in Dubai, and hotels sell minimum-stay packages around it.

Fix: if your wedding lands in late January or February 2027, either fly within a week of the wedding or push the honeymoon to late March or April. Same trip, lower price, no restrictions.

Mistake 2: Assuming you’ll get the visa at the airport

This is the one that turns into a real problem at the check-in counter.
Indian passport holders generally need to arrange a UAE visit visa before departure. There is a conditional 14-day visa on arrival, but only for Indian nationals holding a US visitor visa, a US green card, or an EU visa or residence.

Since 2024, that route requires online pre-approval rather than a stamp at the airport. Reporting in 2026 indicates the UK-residence route has been removed from the eligible list, with the implementation date not formally announced.
Check your own passport’s rules on the official channels: ICP or GDRFA Dubai.

Only Tourism has arranged UAE visas since 2013 and holds GDRFA establishment number 2/1/231425 as an inbound tour operator, so on a package, the visa is submitted through those same official channels as part of the booking, no second agency, no separate paperwork, while you’re also planning a wedding.
** Only Tourism L.L.C is a licensed private travel agency. It is not a government entity and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any UAE government authority. Visa applications are submitted directly through the official government channels (ICP / GDRFA Dubai).

Fix: settle the visa before you book flights, and put it inside the package so one team owns it.

Mistake 3: Staying in the wrong Dubai

Couples book the hotel with the best photo and then discover the photo was taken 30 minutes from everything they wanted.
Dubai has three honeymoon areas, and they are not interchangeable.
Area
What you wake up to
Best for
The trade-off
Palm Jumeirah / Jumeirah beachfront
Sea, sand, resort pools
Doing very little, beautifully
Furthest from Old Dubai, you'll taxi for dinner
Dubai Marina / JBR
Towers, promenade, walkable dinner
Couples who want to walk out and find food
No real quiet
Downtown / Burj Khalifa
The skyline and the Fountain
Views, shopping, one-night wow
Not a beach holiday

Fix for five nights: pick one. Beach for a honeymoon, nine times out of ten.
Fix for six or seven nights: three nights beach, then two nights downtown, but book the beach half first, so you end near the airport and the shopping.

Changing hotels costs you a morning to check out, an afternoon to check in, and a transfer. On a five-night trip, that’s 20% of your honeymoon spent with your luggage.

Mistake 4: Planning two romantic evenings into one day

The single most common itinerary error, and it’s a maths problem.
In December, the sun sets in Dubai at about 5:28 pm at the start of the month and 5:40 pm by the 31st.

In January, it moves from 5:40 pm to 6:02 pm. Every romantic getaway in Dubai wants that same slot: the desert safari, the dhow cruise, the Fountain show, dinner with a view, and the Marina walk.
A desert safari leaves mid-afternoon and returns late evening. It is your whole evening. A dhow cruise is a whole evening. You cannot do both on a Tuesday.

Fix: one signature experience per day, keep mornings slow. For a honeymoon, that’s the right pace anyway.
Day
Slow half
The one thing
1
Land, hotel, pool
Marina promenade and dinner
2
Beach morning
Evening desert safari
3
Spa or late breakfast
Dhow cruise, Marina
4
Old Dubai: Creek, abra, souks
Burj Khalifa at sunset, then the Fountain
5
Shopping or going on a hot air balloon ride at sunrise
Quiet dinner, nothing scheduled

Mistake 5: Booking the desert safari, everyone else books

The AED-99 group safari is a good trip and a bad honeymoon. Forty vehicles, a shared camp, communal tables, a stage and a few hundred people.
What actually makes a desert evening romantic is the opposite of scale: a camp far enough out that the city glow is gone, fewer vehicles sharing it, and a private table rather than a bench.

Ask three questions before you book any safari:
  1. How far out is the camp? Closer camps mean more crowding and more light.
  2. How many vehicles share it? This is the question operators least like answering.
  3. Is there a private dinner setup, or one long table?

Fix: book a smaller or private desert experience for the honeymoon, and keep the group safari for a family trip.

Mistake 6: Building the trip around landmarks that are closed

Half the “Dubai honeymoon” lists online are recycled from 2023 and still send couples to places they can’t get into this season.
Still on every list
Reality for 2026–27
Burj Al Arab afternoon tea, inside tour
Closed for restoration since April 2026; reported reopening around October 2027
Museum of the Future
Closed from mid-September 2026 for a full exhibition rebuild; reopening expected Q1 2027
Ain Dubai
Status unconfirmed — don't build a proposal moment around it
Global Village
Open: Season 31 runs 14 October 2026 – May 2027. Fun, loud, not romantic. Go early evening

Fix: verified alternatives for the same moment. For the view, At The Top, Burj Khalifa from AED 169 book a non-prime afternoon slot and stay through sunset. For the photograph, the Dubai Fountain Boardwalk at AED 25, about 10 metres from the water, with shows every 30 minutes from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. For the skyline-and-sea version, a Marina dhow cruise.

Mistake 7: Not telling anyone it’s your honeymoon

Couples arrive, say it at check-in, and wonder why nothing happened. Hotels and operators arrange honeymoon touches from the booking side, room decoration, a cake, a table by the window, and a room upgrade when one is free.
None of it is guaranteed, and all of it needs notice.
The same applies to the small things that make the photos: which side of the Fountain you stand on, which desert camp table you get, and whether the dhow seats you upstairs.

Fix: say “honeymoon” when you book, give your wedding date, and name the one thing that matters most to you.

A coordinator can arrange a lot with two weeks’ notice and almost nothing with two hours’.

What couples should know about behaviour in public?

Not a mistake so much as a surprise, and better read before the flight than learned on a beach.
Official UAE government guidance for visitors is direct: “Public displays of affection should be minimal; holding hands is acceptable, but kissing and hugging in public is not.”

Visitors are also asked to “dress modestly, particularly in conservative areas and public places” Swimwear is for the beach and pool, not the mall and not to photograph people without permission.
Hotel beaches and pools are relaxed. Malls, souks, the metro and public parks are not. Nobody is looking for a reason to trouble a honeymooning couple; you just don’t want your first surprise in Dubai to be an awkward one.

So, how long should a Dubai honeymoon be?

Five nights is the honest answer. Six or seven if you want a beach half and a city half.
Four nights work only if you skip either the desert or Old Dubai. Anything longer than eight and you’ll want a day trip to Abu Dhabi or a night in Ras Al Khaimah to break it up.

Flight times are short enough that a five-night trip really is five nights: roughly 3 hours from Mumbai, about 3.5 hours from Delhi, and around 4 hours from Bangalore. You lose no day to travel at either end.

Booking it as one trip while you’re also planning a wedding

The reason couples get these seven things wrong is not carelessness. It’s that a Dubai honeymoon has about a dozen moving parts visa, flights, one or two hotels, transfers, safari, cruise, Burj Khalifa timing, a dinner that matters, and you’re assembling them in the same weeks you’re assembling a wedding.

Only Tourism is a DET-licensed (690148) Dubai travel agency, operating from Al Mankhool since 2013, that builds all-inclusive Dubai packages, flights, hotel, transfers, guided tours and your UAE visa in one booking, with a named coordinator on WhatsApp. Quotes for Indian travellers are given in INR from Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
“Everything was clear, the itinerary ran exactly as promised, and the coordinator replied within minutes.”  Only Tourism guest

FAQ

When is the best time for a Dubai honeymoon?
Mid-November to March for weather, and late March to April for value. Avoid June to August, when daytime temperatures pass 40°C. Note that Ramadan is expected to run from 8 February to 8 or 9 March 2027, when daytime dining and live music are restricted.

Do Indian couples need a visa for a honeymoon in Dubai?
Usually, yes, a UAE visit visa is arranged before departure. A conditional 14-day visa on arrival is available to Indian passport holders who also hold a US visa, a US green card, or an EU visa or residence, and it now requires online pre-approval. Check your own case on the official ICP or GDRFA Dubai channels.

Can unmarried couples share a hotel room in Dubai?
Hotels in Dubai accommodate couples without asking for a marriage certificate, and the UAE reforms announced in November 2020 decriminalised cohabitation.

How many days do you need for a Dubai honeymoon?
Five nights cover the desert, Old Dubai, the Burj Khalifa and real beach time without rushing. Six or seven lets you split between a beach hotel and Downtown.

Is a desert safari worth it on a honeymoon?
Yes, but not the large group version. Ask how far out the camp is, how many vehicles share it and whether there’s a private dinner setup before you book.

Is Dubai expensive for a honeymoon?
It scales. The expensive parts are hotels, fine dining and private experiences; the best romantic moments, the Fountain, the Marina promenade, a beach sunset, and Old Dubai at dawn cost nothing or almost nothing.

Can we get married in Dubai?
Civil and religious marriage is possible in the UAE for some residents and visitors, depending on nationality and documentation, but the process is separate from a honeymoon booking.
